Waitangi Day

Waitangi Day is celebrated every year in New Zealand on 6 February. The date marks marks the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 in which representatives of the British Crown and over 500 Maori chiefs signed what is New Zealand’s founding document. The day was first officially commemorated in 1934, and it has been a public holiday since 1974.

For many New Zealander's Waitangi Day is another summer statutory holiday; for others, especially for Maori, it is the occasion for reflecting on the Treaty.

On Waitangi Day we had the day off and headed to the park. It was a beautiful and windy Wellington summer day.

New Zealand...is cool!

Young at Heart

Allison joined us at the gym with her son Soren and daughter Ruby. Allison is originally from Texas but now lives in the Hutt. : ) She and I practiced our moves.

Rimataka Gym

We took Lucy to the gym on Saturday to check it out. She loved it - so did we. : ) We will start taking her to gym about once a week for the next 10 weeks or so so she can play, jump and roll around in padded environment.

The fence that Vaughan Built

Vaughan is building our back fence by himself and it looks fantastic! It has only taken him two weekends as well. Next we need to plant some grass so Lucy can play outside with her cousins and friends!

Lucy is one!

Lucy turned one on 26 January 2008. We celebrated her first birthday on 3 February after her Grandma DeWald arrived. We had a fun day and Lucy enjoyed her pink cake decorated by Grandma DeWald. My mom's birthday is also on the 26th so Granny Annie make a nice cake for her as well.
