Vege garden
Our veges are growing, particularly our beans. Vaughan planted seeds about two weeks ago and already things are taking off. We shall see how the crops go this season. Next year I hope to add artichokes, heirloom tomatoes, strawberries, chilies and sunflowers. Vaughan's hard work in the yard will benefit us for years to come!

Joanne and Dave
Joanne and Dave came to visit last week. Joanne and I met while both serving on the Board of Oregon Women Lawyers (my lawyer days seem so long ago). They were on an 18 day tour of New Zealand and stayed with us for three nights. We had a great time with them and Lucy loved hanging out with "Jo Jo" and Dave. She is still asking for them. After touring the North Island they arrived with a list of questions for Vaughan about New Zealand, like:
1) Is there meth in NZ? (we confirmed, yes, it's called "P")
2) Why are NZ drivers so sleepy? (hum...)
3) What are the rules of cricket? (does anyone know?)
Vaughan was able to assist them with all queries.
Lucy is still asking for them! Sadly, they are leaving on a plane back to the US today...to the snow in Portland - egads.
Lucy's 2nd Birthday - 26 January
Lucy's 2nd Birthday! We had a small gathering of family and friends to celebrate Lucy's 2nd birthday. It was a beautiful sunny day with a nice breeze and Lucy was lucky to receive all sorts of cool and thoughtful presents! She picked out the Wacky Wabbit cake...so, that is what we had. I can't believe she is already two years old. Time flies. She is 91 cm tall, or just shy of three foot. She can sing her ABC's and count to 10, sometimes 12. She says please and "ta", wants heaps of cuddles, loves to run, feed the ducks, swim, swing, dance, sing and hang out with her cousins, Ethan, Gabe and Margot and her friends Ruby and Soren (not to mention Granny, Ju Ju and Matt!). She is a great big bundle of fun and she learns and changes each day. She is amazing to watch and hang out with and I know she will be a wonderful big sister.
39 weeks
These were taken on Sunday, it is now Wednesday night and I am still waiting for labor to begin. My due date is 5 more days away, 3 February. We went in yesterday for a visit to the doctor thinking he may do a membrane sweep to get things going but my cervix is not quite ready for that. The baby's head, however, is low and engaged.
I am walking, drinking raspberry leaf tea and today my friend Allison gave me a foot rub to try and hit some key points to get things going. Could be anytime now....but hopefully by the end of next week.

36 and a half weeks
Had a visit with the doctor on 13 January (37 weeks).
Based on the baby's current size, mainly the head, my EDD was the day of my visit! Ha! But I am still with child and doing fine although every niggle and pain and twitch has me wondering if I am in labor or not. My due date is still 3 February and the doctor gave me no reason to assume the baby would arrive early although he encouraged me to stop working. My last day is tomorrow, 15 January and I do hope I have a week or so to unwind from work, tidy some things up and rest. But of course, we will be thrilled whenever bubba arrives - we can't wait to meet him or her!
